On October 30th, the New York Estonian House becomes a Viking village for one night. Step inside, gather with friends, and enter the mysterious autumn world of Baltoween. Bring out your Viking attire or come dressed as your own take on the mythical North. The village welcomes you from 8 PM until 2 AM.
Join us in a relaxed and friendly setting to practice speaking Estonian through fun games, group activities, and conversation. Keelekohvik is led by Estonian cultural writer and critic Karmen-Elise Märtens. Please note: This is not an Estonian language class. Keelekohvik is intended for people who already speak some Estonian and would like an opportunity to practice, build confidence, and enjoy good company in a cozy setting.

We’re back from summer break on September 10th — and ready for a new season! We invite you to the New York Estonian House Season Opener, with this year’s theme: “Nordic Yacht Rock.” White pants, striped shirts, sailor style, anchors — or simply a good mood. Anything goes! Doors open at 5:00 PM, with the evening beginning with Estonian music from the 1970s and ’80s, spun from the Estonian Funk Embassy “Groove of ESSR” vinyl compilations. Then we’ll pick up the tempo with Swedish trumpeter Oskar Stenmark , performing two sets at 7:30 PM and 8:30 PM. Using his trumpet, OP-1 digital synthesizer and effects looper pedal, Oskar creates a layered sound world where Nordic sensibility meets rock and electronic sounds. Bring your friends and join us as we open the new season together! We’ll ride the musical waves, listen to great sounds, and enjoy a relaxed Nordic evening with delicious food and drinks.

The biggest annual fundraiser for Long Island Estonian House — Jaanipäev & Sports Day — is back on June 12–14. June 13th Opening act: Nordic Artists of New York collective. Headliner: ZETOD (popular folk-rock band from Setomaa, Southern Estonia). Get ready for a fun-filled weekend! Enjoy a concert, traditional folk games, a folk dance workshop (led by Zetod), flower crown making (led by EES Junior Board), children’s programs, and of course a large bonfire. Take a refreshing dip in the pool or relax in the sauna. We promise this will be a memorable weekend. Gazebo bar will have in addition to beer and wine also spritz and basic cocktails available. Our annual Estonian Food Contest is back - this time it's kartulisalat (Estonian potato salad) Preparers and tasters must register by January 17th with Liisi V. A unique opportunity to learn how to make your own traditional leather pastlad (Estonian folk shoes)! The workshop will take place on Tuesday, May 20 from 6:00 PM – 10:00 PM. Instructor: Clothing historian and footwear designer Katrin Koch-Maasing. Cost: $70 Workshop overview: -A brief history of the origins of pastlad -Instruction on the traditional technique of making leather pastlad without rubber soles.
