Our annual Estonian Food Contest is back - this time it's kartulisalat (Estonian potato salad) Preparers and tasters must register by January 17th with Liisi V. Fletcher (liisi.fletcher@gmail.com /347-683-3632) CONTEST RULES: Kartulisalat must be premade. Prepares should make enough kartulisalat for about 50 people (small cups provided on-site). Preparers pay no fee. Tasters pay a $10 fee per person. Tasters will vote for the best kartulisalat. A prize will be given to the winner

NYE Celebration (Estonian timezone)

Come celebrate early New Years in Estonian timezone. Event starts at 4pm. Meeting with Estonian Foreign Minister

The Embassy of Estonia in Washington, D.C. invites the Estonian community to a meeting with Foreign Minister Margus Tsahkna at the New York Estonian House on September 21 at 6:30 PM. Estonian National Leather Footwear Workshop

A unique opportunity to learn how to make your own traditional leather pastlad (Estonian folk shoes)! The workshop will take place on Tuesday, May 20 from 6:00 PM – 10:00 PM. Instructor: Clothing historian and footwear designer Katrin Koch-Maasing. Cost: $70 Workshop overview: -A brief history of the origins of pastlad -Instruction on the traditional technique of making leather pastlad without rubber soles. You can choose between a rounded or pointed toe style. -All participants will leave with their own handmade leather pastlad, along with the design pattern and the skills needed to make them independently in the future. Kaisa Ling Thing Duo Concert

Provocative, quasi-political and downright braggy, somewhat refined while teetering on the edge of tawdry, Estonia’s best (albeit the only) vaudeville blues band Kaisa Ling Thing casts a passionate message into dynamic musical form. The future grand old lady of Estonian blues Kaisa Ling and pianist Rene Paul have played together since 2018. Kaisa Ling Thing has released two LPs and two blues musicals.
